Surya fans -mixed reaction to Vaaranam Aayiram

Surya's latest film 'Vaaranam Aayiram' which hit the theatres amidst great expectations has elicited a mixed reaction among his fans. Although everyone is convinced of his splendid performance in the film, some are disappointed by the fact that he has done a relatively a soft role in the film. The action sequence that has been introduced in the film also doesn't appear to merge with the main script. The picture that has exploited the acting talent has poorly done to his mass hero image. The proof for this is that this picture is being commercially overtaken by other films like thenaavattu.
Surya's fans feel that such elite English speaking roles will distance him away from the common people. Surya always known for his down to earth personality must choose those roles that are more realistic, some feel. It should be noted that being a son of Sivakumar the veteran actor has given Tamil fans a sense of belongingness toward him.
There are some fans who beleive that Surya must concentrate on mass films like those of Vijay and Ajith. When done so he has a good chance of beating them as a mass hero, they say. Mass heroes also make films that are commercially more successful. They insist that he must satisfy the overall audience, other than the elite city dwellers.
Female fans have a different opinion though. They feel that Surya has to stick to such posh roles. They feel that it suits his personality. It should be noted that Surya has a huge female fan following , particularly after his devoted love afair and marriage with Jyothika.

There are enough vijays and ajiths. Surya is unique and his fans want him to be unique.
